Veteran shot stopper George Owu who currently plies his trade with Ashanti Gold SC has said he is eyeing a call up to the Black stars.

The Former Black Stars shot-stopper has been nominated for the player of the month award for June and is hoping consistency in his performances would catch the eyes of Coach Kwesi Appiah.

Owu who was criticized when moving to Ashanti Gold SC from Hassaccas because of his age has put in stellar performances ever since he joined the Obuasi based club recording four clean-sheets out of the five games he’s featured for the boys in Gold and earned himself a man of the match award when his side faced Medeama.

The former Black Stars shot-stopper said” I am praying and hoping to be back. God’s time is the best.”

The former Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Dwarfs goalie has been rewarded for his stellar performances this month with a nomination for the Player of the Month Award for June.

Owu when speaking to EMPIRE SPORTS said “Some people think the body is weak but they don’t know the engine is still working. This is my career and I know what I can do”

Owu also cited Philippians 4; 13 as the key to his success. The goalkeeper acknowledged the fact that it wasn’t by his strength that he had chalked that success but by the grace of God.

He said “I thank God for this achievement and the performances he has given me and the Ashgold team. All my strength comes from the Lord. If you read Philippians 4; 13, it says I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Whatever that I am doing it is God who has given me the strength and power to do it. So I thank God for this opportunity that he has given me.”

Owu also opened the lid on the secret behind the Miners impressive start to the second round. The miners are unbeaten in the second round winning four of the five games played.

He said “Our secret is praise and worship. We just praise God and worship God so that his victory will dwell on us. Always we come together as a team both the playing body and management. We use drums to praise God so that God can give us victory. That has been our secret.”
