One out of three Forestry guards has been shot by a farmer at Sewfi -Awaso here in the western region. It all started when the three Forestry guards namely: Francis Adu Gyamfi, Matthew Kyem and Collins Gyamfi went for tree seedlings in Sefwi Awaso forest for transplanting.
It was in the course of the work they saw five illegal farmers in the forest and questioned them why they were illegally farming in the forest. One of the said farmers who is yet to be identified took offence of the questioning and unknown to the guards went back to his farm for his single barrel gn and shot at the three forestry guards but likely only Collins Gyamfi sustained serious gunshot wounds and has been referred from Bibiani Government hospital to Okomfo Anokye Hospital Kumasi, for further treatment.
Police in the area are yet to make any arrest.
