WESTERN REGION RECORDS 66 CASES OF ROAD ACCIDENTS IN JANUARY ALONE

Shocking revelation from the Western Regional office of the Motor Transport and Traffic Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service here in Takoradi suggest as at yesterday the region had recorded 66 cases of road accidents.

Regional Commander of the MTTD Chief Superintendent Richard Appiah disclosed that majority of the accidents occurred on the Takoradi to Agona Nkwanta Highway.

Out of the disturbing figures thirteen, (13) of the cases claimed lives.

Chief Superintendent Richard Appiah said sixteen (16) pedestrians were also involved the accidents. 12 of them were injured with the remaining 4 being killed.

He explained preliminary investigation at the accident scenes points to over speeding and sheer negligence.

He revealed that most articulator drivers who ply the road drive recklessly simply because they think when accident occurs they will survive due to the nature of their vehicles.  Chief Superintendent Richard Appiah cautioned them to observe road safety rules when driving and respect other road users as well.
