The Metropolitan Chief Executive of Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA), Anthony K.K. Sam says the creation of regional urban roads director aside the already existing urban roads unit is posing many challenges in meeting the rising road requests by residents of the metropolis.

Speaking to Kwame Malcolm on Radio 360’s morning programme , “Y3nsom” ; the MCE revealed that the creation by the previous government makes it difficult in addressing issues concerning roads in the metropolis ; “…often times you call the regional urban roads director to respond to concerns and he is hardly available…he does not report to me , since am the Metro Chief but he rather reports to the regional minister so sometimes it is a bit difficult to readily meet some requests on roads by residents of the metropolis…” added the MCE.

He however said some major roads in the metropolis will see a facelift. He said this was revealed during a recent visit by the President, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo to the region. He said the project has already began in areas like Queen of Peace , Mount Zion and other areas in Anaji which will soon spread out to other suburbs. He added that the Assembly is in its own small way doing some road patching and maintenance on some major link roads in the metropolis that are affected by potholes.

The STMA mayor revealed that the contractor on the Fijai / Effia Nkwanta is expected to resume full work on the road as it has deteriorated. He confirmed that the road had initially not been tendered and awarded as a contract to Asabea Contract or when the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) assumed power ; ” the contractor working on the road , Asabea, had not been awarded the contract when we came to power so he has been feet dragging but I am told it has been rectified and the necessary requirements done so…we will soon ask him to open the other lane which is a bit better and he has blocked with boulders to traffic as the road has greatly deteriorated…” ; Honourable K.K Sam added.

Meanwhile the Metro MCE revealed that some properties along the double Axim Road notably the chain of stores and Holy Fire Church will be affected by the soon to be constructed over pass at Kwame Nkrumah (Edzii) roundabout. He said all those with documents will be duly compensated as the Chines contractors recently visited the site for an initial assessment.
