ENSURE YOUR PRESENCE IS FELT IN HOST COMMUNITIES; PETROLEUM COMMISSION TELLS IOCs

The Community Relations Manager of the Petroleum Commission; Judith Adwoba Blay; is advising International Oil Companies to ensure their presence are felt positively in the various host communities they operate.

Speaking to Empirefmonline on the sidelines of the annual Community Relations Workshop organised by the Petroleum Commission in Ellembelle ; the Community relations manager said much as there are sentiments by indigenes of host communities that the oil find has brought them untold hardship, the Commission is undertaking scientific baseline research on the impact assessment of the oil find. She said it is in line with ensuring that the 6 coastal districts of the host communities ; Sekondi / Takoradi ; Ahanta West , Nzema East , Jomorro ,  Shama and Ellembelle benefit from investment from the various international oil companies ;” we as a regulator has the mandate to ensure that the oil and gas companies are invest in the communities; they provide training ; livelihood programmes of training women etc …so they seek to obtain the social license to operate and recognise them as the host communities” she added.

The Petroleum Commission relations manager further advised the fisherfolks to always ensure no damage is done to the oil installations as they go about the fishing since any damage done will be added as cost for the country before profits are declared.
