2 persons have been jailed by a Takoradi Circuit Court for 3 years after being found guilty of stealing cables belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

The two, Samuel Cudjoe 35 and Samuel Kodjoe 33 were charged with conspiracy, to wit stealing, causing damage and stealing. They were arrested and detained on Friday, July 13, 2018, by the Kwesimintsim Divisional Command after they were found with items believed to belong to the ECG when a cab with registration number GT 4048 – 17, was stopped at the barrier at about 2 am GMT.

The 2 who were in the taxi had a fertilizer bag containing a quantity of cable wire, earth wire, a pair of scissors, a black school bag, a pair of pliers and knife. The items after investigations were found to be part of items that were stolen from the ECG at Ankyernyin in the Ahanta West District of the Western Region.

The Acting General Manger of the ECG in the Western Region , Ibrahim Yakubu is therefore appealing to all citizens to be vigilant as such activities of robbers is having a toll on the work of the ECG in the Western Region. He revealed that there have been 4, separate robbery incidents targeting ECG property between June 29, and July 13, of this year. He added that if such acts continue unchecked it will jeopardize the smooth transmission of power to parts of the region as it takes time and cost to replace such vandalized stolen items.

The Acting Western Regional Engineer of the Company, Ing. Ebenezer Addy lauded the Kwesimintsim police command for the yeoman’s job in nabbing the robbers and revealed that in some cases targeted the neutral cables which if it persists, will affect electrical appliances of households in the event of power surges. He therefore called on all to ensure such saboteurs are exposed and the law made to deal with them.
