The Effia Nkwanta Blood Bank in the Western Region is in dire need of voluntary blood. The blood bank currently falls short of its minimum capacity of fifty  (50) pints of blood a day.

Western Regional Principal Blood Donor, Emil Anornu disclosed this to Empire News’ Emmanmuel Ohene -Gyan in an exclusive interview.

He added that the blood bank has less than five (5) pints of voluntary blood. The Principal Blood Donor explained that at the moment the 5pints of voluntary blood standing at the blood bank is already taken as they stand in names of persons who are due for surgery soon.

He further stated that any blood donated cannot be used after 35 days since the shelf life expires after 35days. He revealed that most often the blood bank boosts its storehouse through appeals and donations from various senior high schools and tertiary institutions; he however added that the whole of this year , that has not materialized because they are unable to provide any incentives in the form of give always to them when they donate thereby placing the blood bank in a precarious situation.

He is therefore appealing to individuals and corporate bodies to donate blood to be able to respond to emergencies
