The Takoradi Sub Metro has seized equipment of 7 itinerant preachers in the Central Business District for noise making.
The exercise that was led and commissioned by the Takoradi Sub Metro Administrator Nana Asempanaye Yeboah ll on Thursday, July 4, 2019 included some environmental health officers, metro guards , NABCO Trainees and Community Protection Personnel.
Confirming the exercise to Empirefm online , the sub metro administrator said all of the itinerant preachers were caught violating the Sekondi – Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly’ bye law on Control Noise that defines permissible noise levels for industrial, commercial, residential areas . They were nabbed in areas such as the Market Circle, Carlos Supermarket area , Sekondi Trotro Station, Hisense area amongst others.
When asked what will be the next line of action after seizure of the the equipment; Nana Asempanaye ll said court action is being considered; “there are some options being considered by the assembly like court action as management is yet to take a decision… additionally, there could be a review of the time for preaching from 5:30 am-8am instead of the present 6am-9:30 am or better still a total ban on preaching on pavements of the Central Business District.” explained the Takoradi Sub Metro Director.
He furter revealed to Empire fm online that scores of preachers have come pleading for a return of the seized equipments but have all been turned away.
It will be recalled that the public has time without number been complaining of excessive noise by itinerant preachers in the metropolis and the General Assembly of the STMA at a meeting held on April 25 and 26 , 2019 tasked the sub metros to initiate a pricess to check excessive noise in the Metropolis.
