Some task force members of Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly set to end open defecation in the city this morning had to run for their lives after some youth in the community attacked them from arresting defectors.
The youth pelted them with stones and other offensive objects at the task force all in a bid to prevent them from carrying out any arrest.
The Nkotompo fishing community is one of the areas hard hit by open defecation. Metro environmental health officer, Abdul Kareem Hudu told Empire News’ Emmanuel Ohene-Gyan that the injured task force members are receiving medical attention.
It will be recalled that barely a week ago a Sekondi magistrate court freed some eight people including a woman who were caught in the same act ; this did not go down well with the assembly officials.
Abdul Kareem Hudu said the leader of the attack has been identified and will soon be arrested.
The exercise is aimed improving the poor sanitary conditions in the once neatest city in the region
This morning’s suspects were arrested at Essipon, Ketan , Ekuase and Nkontompo and in all eight people have been arrested and waiting to be trialed in court. The ages of the culprits range between 17 and 61 years.
